If Mitchell is referencing gang culture, it should be mentioned that gangs has been active since the inception of Chicago. If Mitchell is referencing violence in Chicago, it should be metioned that the city has been plagued with violence since the Prohibition era.
I wish that journalists would focus on solutions to the problems versus creating cute, non-fact based sound bites! Mitchell, an African American journalist goes as far as to blame the deaths of Heaven Sutton and Jonylah Watkins on the "gang affiliation" of their family members. She states, " They should have known the father’s gang ties could put this child at risk”.
